| Craft day! |
[Nov. 24th, 2009|03:38 pm] |
Jen most definately did not try to use clay to make a mold of her hands, fail miserably, then try using wax (which makes a much better imprint) only to get her hand stuck in the mold. she also did not learn that candle wax cannot be microwaved, and her kitchen is certainly not in a mess and does not smell of latex. |

deadpool being deadpool (comic book character. if you don't know about deadpool, i highly reckonmend getting hold of some comics, as deadpool is a lot of forth-wall-breaking fun.)
Oh, The Temptation from Steve V on Vimeo.
psychology torture for little children, the marshmallow test.
johnathan charles needs to learn about taking a pause in sentances...

in other news, have a day off, in which i intend to finish off dying my hair back to purple bits, play arkham asylum which is a great game (even if i am really bad at it when i get excited and then can't remember which keys do what, and so palm ineffectualy at the keyboard until i die and have to try again...), and finish modding my ego toy to a rat. |

| Rattus are loose |
[Sep. 20th, 2009|10:19 am] |
the rattus figures i've been working on are finally on etsy (etsy is like ebay for crafters)
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7498989
otherwise things have been very busy, with one thing or another, and then some. but generally good. i helped the flatmates zombie up last night, for a zombie themed pub crawl. we put a tarp down and everything.
and i appear to have an immortal mead, in which the yeast won't die. i'm hoping this doesn't make the batch too dry as a result, but my own sense of taste is a little broken at present. i will probably have to add yet more yeast killer. |

| scrounging for votes |
[Sep. 2nd, 2009|12:41 pm] |
i did a custom for a toy show called 'whose da bomb?'. the object i was given (for free, from way over america land way) was a bomb smoking a cigarette. this is my custom;

funnily enough, tis a ratty. now, if you are bored, and want to see some pretty nifty artwork (the folks who customise these vinyl toys are amazingly talented and creative), and maybe drop me some votes (you do have to sign up, but it is quick and relatively painless), the link is;

| ratty moose |
[Aug. 24th, 2009|11:26 am] |
one of the regular weekly video podcast-type things i watch is toy break in one of the most recent shows, there was a fluffy thing that looked like a giant plush rat. i asked the show's hosts via the forum what that ratty thing was to the left of the screen, forgetting that 'ratty' isn't exactly the most complimentery of terms, and that George one of the hosts, always sits to the left. turns out it was a moose plush, so i did a quick comic to apologise.

You have a single adjective. Just one tiny, little adjective, to sum up a character. Which one do you choose?
Double click (mage) - undaunted (at the moment) Jo (werewolf) - Dogged (pun sort of unintentional...) Lee7 (babylon prime) - Persistant Annaseed (Lorian trust)- meek B-Bea (figureheads and footnotes) - scared |

| trouble brewing |
[Jul. 22nd, 2009|11:17 pm] |
its that time of year again, when jen gets into her head that she can have a plant last more than a month without killing it, and buys plants, seeds and other greenery. today i took a very soggy trip out to dobbies, and bought a venus fly trap, a bonsai and some seeds (and also some greenfly killer, as the little buggers have invested my windowsill.) i have also been crafting, namely an entry to a competition including customising one of Doktor A (very steam punk style)'s mechtorian figures. this invloves sculpting very ting rats to run in a wheel (the first rats were too big, and they were about thumbnail size). will post pictures when the paint job is done, but for two days work, it's looking really rather good. though i've stuck my fingers together with glue more times than i care to repeat, snapped two of my scaple blades and learnt a lot about what-vinyl-does-when-you-try-to-cure-scupley-on-it (you have to boil it, at about 3 minute intervals so the vinyl doesn't melt but the scupley does harden....)
rattus project is going well. have also made some mistakes along the way, but its a learning process which i'm sure will serve me well until i find something even weird to invlove myself in. so far have a nearly compleat black rat with cocktail stick weapon, but i mucked up his tail (see learning process) and so have to redo.
elsewise i am enjoying my couple of days off to potter about and craft away to my little heart's content (and believe me, when jen is covered in paint and glue and soil, she's usually very content). |

| insanely twisted. |
[Jul. 16th, 2009|10:02 am] |
micheal gange's insanely twisted stuff is so pretty. i love the sleekness of his style, and think this game looks amazing. i wish i had better hand-eye coordonation for this type of games though...
played through the new chapter of monkey island (on steam). not much impressed. the jokes were a bit lack luster, and some of the puzzles downright weird (ie, impossible to slove without clicking on every item in the game). it could just be an oversensitive nostalgia for the origonal games, but it didn't click with me at all. and for a point and click that's pretty poor.
back from family in dundee. waved them off to croatia.
otherwise back in edinburgh, and doing fine. |

| family time |
[Jul. 14th, 2009|01:24 pm] |
have spent the last week and a bit back in dundee with the family, helping out watching the kids as younger-but-taller brother went and got himself graduated and a job in the computer gaming industry (i'm actually very proud).
i realise i really like my family. its been great getting to spend time at home in dundee, and generally chilling out for a while. i think i needed a little break from edinburgh (though it does feel at times like i've run away and joined the circus). been crafting and chatting to ewan and playing patapon 2 (which is stupidly addictive)
all the time, i am looking forward to coming back. remind of that when i complain about the lack of dishwasher.... |

| Project Rattus |
[Jun. 25th, 2009|10:33 pm] |
so.... i have finished the first of the Rattus series. this is ( Nico )
articulated at feet, arms and head, with loads of flex in tail. she is sculpey studio base, sanded down and then painted with acrylic. the little bag is leather hand stitched and has a rivet button fastening, and the feather is tied on with ribbon. she stands at 2 and a half inches.
Nico is a small rat, and likes to climb to the rooftops to watch the birds. she often carries crumbs in her little bag to tempt the local city pidgeons closer to her, but usually ends up eating them herself.
she has turned out really well, and though i love the fur effect, i wil probbaly use appropriate colour scuplty to cut down of the workload for the next model. the cunning plan (so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel) is to make up a small set of these (about 5-6) then head on over to etsy. i'll keep you posted. |

| under pressure |
[Jun. 17th, 2009|04:49 pm] |
stupid high pressure make smy head feel fuzzy. and knocks my sleep pattern out of whack. and makes me far more clumsy (as demostrated by my new colourful collection of brusies). and just generally sucks.
however, i've been crafting away, working mostly on my toy design, which now has a lot of plotting and planning sorted, as well as being on mark two of the scuplted stage. i think i might have a good sculpt of the feet, and head, but i need to see how it all fits together before i finalise. i'm using sculpey, which at first was like trying to shape toothpaste, but i think i've got the hang of it now. plus it can be cured, which makes life easier when you build up layers and detail, so you don't have to worry about smugding your base shape when working on a section.
( mark one ) so thats going pretty well, and i have some ideas for combeining felted bodied with sculpted hands and feet for better detail and so the figures are better at standing up. its all looking promising, though i've discovered that tiny little steampunk goggles are tiny and fiddly and need a bit more thinking applied. the end result will hopefully be a line of rat figures with tiny little props like goggles and bags and grappling hooks, each with a name and short back story. i'm currently weighting up the pro/cons of making resin molds (need new equipment but will make making multiple copies of the parts much easier) vrs using scupley (very labour intensive).
however, i'm taking a bit of a break and shifting focus (partly because this damnable weather makes concentrating hard), and moving on to my project list;
memetreat for Sarah
memetreat for fluffy (stuffed a fluffy full of mini cupcakes!) memetreat for rachel memetreat for ali next stage vinyl/resin toy design (see above)
new undershirt for Annaseed
customised Dunny x2 tiding up complusion griffin pic plush griffin
fixing annaseed's belt Parment paper for LARPing.
vinyl design of Gwin (lightbulb) vinyl design of Gwins (lacey)(gwin is a penguin shaped vinyl toy, but i'm choking down my normal reluctance to have anything to do with the critters... barely) geode Dunny Bisuluo skull (paper machie) (on hold) Green thing (on hold)
if i owe you a memetreat, please give me a clue as to what you want, because i'm a little stumped at present (and head full of rats and nonsense, which i realise isn't everyone's cup of hot water, leaves, cow lactation and sucrose) |

| new project list |
[May. 27th, 2009|11:41 am] |
i'm slowly but surely working through the previous ( the old project list ) and as such i felt it was time to add some items. this gets complicated, as some of these items are secret. so if something is coded up in jenish, don't pry.
so, the new list; memetreat for Sarah memetreat for fluffy memetreat for rachel memetreat for ali Bisuluo skull (paper machie) next stage vinyl/resin toy design (its a rat, funnily enough) new undershirt for Annaseed Green thing customised Dunny tiding up complusion griffin pic plush griffin fixing annaseed's belt Parment paper for LARPing.
... to be updated as i remember more things i want to do.
oh, and before i go, felted ferrets with articulated limbs!!

... and a spiderkin cheerleader doll....

| so... |
[Apr. 24th, 2009|09:58 am] |
Gin died. this is strangely an ok thing for me to deal with, as i was already seriously worried she was starting to suffer, and thus concidering that last visit to the vets... it sucks a bit, but i'm comforted by the fact she's in no pain now, and that i have a multiude of friends who have been fab the last few days.
this does mean that the delicate balance within the rat cage has been shaken up. Ip has taken alpha (being the larger and more bossy of the two sisters), with Si backing up up.... Tangle... well, Tangle is being the most strange little rat i've ever come across. whether her weakness in her back legs gives her call to be a lot more defensive, or that she is not used to rats not giving up, tangle is still squeaking her little head off when the sisters appoarch, leaping across the cage in random bouts of defiance (which she then takes for a 'win') and generally not submitting to the new rat order. this is problematic as i'd like my rats to get on, and damn it, i need sleep, and full ratty war with squeaks and scuffles is not conducive to sound sleep...
not to say the rats aren't getting along most of the time. right now. tangle is curled up with Ip in the tunnel, which is pretty usual. it completly beats me as to what the problem is, apart from tangle wants to be alpha.
i'm sure they'll work something out between them, rats are like that. and as long as the scuffles aren't drawing blood, i'll leave them together for the time being. |

| zombie cheerleaders. |
[Apr. 18th, 2009|11:00 pm] |
so. jen gets a day off, and how does she spent it? fiddling around with tiny bits of ribbon, green latex and warhammer skeletons..... oh, and tiny little *expletive* pom poms...
see my flickr account for full photos. damn i need to get a marco working camera... though really, shouldn't it be called a mirco setting, since the things are usually really small, hense getting the camera closer? oh well.
( zombie cheerleader )
oh. by the way, these are for ben, so get him to explain why the hell i was working on tiny little zombie cheerleaders.... |
